The Chinese manufacturer MediaTek is developing a new processor, code number mt689x, a well-known source, Digital Chat Station, shared information about it. The key feature of the upcoming chip is that it is built using 6nm technology - this is the best result for MediaTek to date.
There is little information about the upcoming chip, but given the data on the architecture and clock frequency, we can assume that the upcoming SoC MediaTek is comparable to the Exynos 1080: it is an ARM Cortex-A78 with a frequency of 2.8 GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores with a clock frequency of 2.7 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores, clocked at 2.0 GHz. It will be most convenient to compare this chip with the current flagship of MTK - Dimensity 1000 Plus, which is built on a 7nm process technology and has a Cortex-A77 as the main core. The unannounced mt689x is expected to use the Mali G77 as the GPU, versus the Mali G78 in the Exynos 1080.
According to the same source, the mt689x scores 600,000 points in AnTuTu, an impressive result considering that the Exynos 1080 in the same test scores about 650,000 points. But what is even more interesting, with such a performance, the chip is planned to be installed in smartphones of the mid-price segment, about $ 300.
There is no official information regarding the announcement of the finished product, but it is assumed that the chip will be announced before the end of this year. It is MediaTek that has a chance to show maximum performance on low-cost devices.
