When a user enables Data Saver in Settings and the device is on a metered network, the system blocks background data usage and signals apps to use less data in the foreground wherever possible. Users can whitelist specific apps to allow background metered data usage even when Data Saver is turned on.
To block apps from using background data, follow the following instructions:
1. Go to Settings
2. Click on Network and Internet
3. Data Usage
4. TAP on DATA SAVER
5. Click on Unrestricted data (That is your Whitelist, and you can select apps you want to restrict or allow when Data saver is on)
NOTE: IF YOU PUT BACKGROUND DATA OFF ON APPS LIKE WhatsApp, YOUR MESSAGES WOULD NOT SHOW UP AS NOTIFICATIONS UNLESS YOU OPEN THE APP.
PS: You can also Click on App data Usage and see the amount of data your apps are using individually and restrict them. Just click on the app and put off background data.
